Railway Jobs

The Indian Railways provide jobs to many in India. The Indian Railway recruits a lot of people every year. A career with the railways is both secure and pleasing simultaneously as this sector is not affected by recession. It is a very large concern with much scope for recruitment. People with different levels of educational qualifications can find jobs in various ranks in this department. The Indian Railways are divided into various ranks, which are again sub-divided. Each division has its technical and non-technical departments with different functions. The technical departments include civil, technical and mechanical engineering, signaling and telecom services. To manage the non-technical departments, the railways recruit in the fields of general services such as accounts, personnel management, Railway protection Force (RPF) or security and traffic services, among others



Railway officers of the highest rank belong to Group A whereas officers of the lowest rank belong to Group D.
Group A officers are recruited by UPSC. UPSC conducts Civil Services examination or the Recruitment to the Indian Railway Accounts service (IRAS) and the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS). Recruitment to the Indian Railway services of Engineers (IRSE), Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSE) is done through the Combined Engineering Service Examination.



Group B employees have an advantage of not appearing in to any special examination
There are nearly 19 RRBs with the duty of recruiting the requisite number of staff for each zone. RRB generally recruits Group C and D employees.

All the appealing candidates belonging to any region can apply for these RRBs examination.
Railway officers of all the Groups and the Non-gazetted employees are trained at the Zonal Training Schools itself. Officers in various Railway Jobs are trained at the following Centralized Training Institutes. The Indian Railways run six centralized training institutes for imparting training to the selected candidates.The main Training Institutes are:

Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications
Indian Railway Institute of Transportation Management
Indian Railway Institute of Civil Engineering
Indian Railway Institute of Electrical Engineering
Railway Protection Force Academy
